Flow Ice is a refined form of slurry ice that is generated by cooling an aqueous solution down to freezing temperatures.

 

This flowing ice has various advantages, including being pumpable and providing ultra fast chilling times.

 

Our innovative approach allows for cold energy to be stored and utilised rapidly when required, leading to peak energy savings.

Low Circulating Temperatures:  Aqueous solutions at -2 °C can be circulated throughout the plant.

Stable Operation: Constant evaporation temperatures allow for robust operation with small fluctuations in refrigeration load.

• Flexible, Compact Storage Options: Allows for compact storage in various tank configurations without any agitation required. Tank size is significantly reduced compared to chilled water storage.

  High Thermal Discharge Rate: Highly reactive to changes in the cooling load requirements. The high surface area-to-volume ratio of the ice crystals enables rapid heat transfer.

Hourly Cooling Demand Compared to Flow Ice Output

As illustrated in the graph above, this load-levelling approach matches a variable cooling demand with a steady flow-ice production rate (about one-third of peak). Ice is generated continuously during low-demand, off-peak hours to build a thermal reserve, taking advantage of cheaper tariffs and better refrigeration efficiency at cooler ambient temperatures. During peak demand, the stored flow ice melts quickly to cover the shortfall, reducing grid peak load and allowing smaller installed refrigeration capacity while still meeting full cooling requirements. Production can also be paused during peak tariff windows if needed.
