Product Development
Everflo’s product development journey has been shaped by more than two decades of hands-on experience in demanding marine refrigeration environments. What began with specialised refrigeration solutions for the fishing industry has evolved into a growing portfolio of purpose-built technologies for marine, aquaculture, industrial, energy and water applications. Today, Everflo’s product range includes Flow Ice, RSW, RAS, central freezing systems, land-based chilling and freezing, Thermal Energy Storage and Freeze Crystallisation technologies.
At the heart of Everflo’s development philosophy is the ability to simplify complex refrigeration challenges. As an OEM, Everflo designs and manufactures complete systems in-house, developing solutions that are compact, service-friendly, scalable and tailored to specific operating requirements. Continued research and development is focused on taking these technologies into new markets while improving efficiency, reliability, sustainability and ease of installation.
A significant recent development is Everflo’s containerised NH₃/CO₂ secondary coolant technology, which combines the reliability and efficiency of ammonia with the operational advantages of pumped CO₂. The modular system eliminates the need for a conventional compressor plant room, allows additional capacity to be added as production grows, uses smaller CO₂ pipework and, according to Everflo, can use 20–30% less energy than conventional Freon systems.
Product development is also taking Everflo beyond conventional refrigeration. Its experience with saltwater and freezing technologies has contributed to the development of Eutectic Freeze Crystallisation (EFC), designed to separate purified water and targeted salts, minerals or other crystals from concentrated streams. This opens applications in areas such as wastewater treatment, brine processing, mineral recovery and Zero Liquid Discharge. Everflo’s existing technical presentation similarly positions EFC, Thermal Energy Storage and advanced chilling technologies as extensions of its established refrigeration expertise.

Congratulations to Kirsten Laaks on graduating cum laude from Stellenbosch University with a Master of Mechanical Engineering on 26 March 2026. We are honoured to have supported her academic journey and celebrate this outstanding achievement and the bright future ahead. She is involved with design, new product development, manufacturing, and project management of marine and industrial refrigeration systems.

The event brought together industry leaders, customers and technology partners to explore the role of digital transformation, Digital Twin technology and sustainable innovation in shaping the future of industry.
Everflo is proud to participate in conversations that advance smarter engineering, innovation and collaboration across industry.
Andre Louw has a Bachelors & Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He is responsible for managing the engineering teams and is responsible for the Technical and Operational output for the respective marine and industrial refrigeration systems.

Everflo RSW Solution for Kozan Fishing
Kozan Fishing in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, has approached Everflo to provide an RSW refrigeration solution for its recently acquired Turkish fishing vessel.
The system must rapidly chill up to 400 tonnes of fish, mainly sardinella and mackerel, from +25°C to 0°C within 12 hours—helping preserve freshness, quality and product value from the moment the catch comes onboard. Everflo’s compact, efficient RSW systems are designed for demanding marine applications where reliable temperature control and fast chilling are essential.

Project Focus | Onboard
The MFV Creativity by Everflo
We are pleased to highlight the successful delivery and installation of a 350kW Ammonia Refrigerated Seawater plant aboard the MFV Creativity by Everflo.
This project presented notable challenges due to severely restricted machinery space aft of the fore peak. While the available footprint was limited, the full 6-metre height could be utilised. Working in close partnership with the Everflo team, we developed an innovative upright configuration using modular components.
This approach allowed the plant to fit precisely within the constrained area while keeping the majority of the weight as low down in the vessel as possible, a significant improvement over a conventional horizontal layout positioned on the main deck level.
The solution not only optimised the vessel’s stability criteria by lowering the centre of gravity but also ensured excellent accessibility and serviceability for ongoing maintenance. The 350kW Ammonia RSW plant is designed to efficiently cool over 400 metric tonnes of seawater in the vessel’s fish holds, delivering the high cooling capacity required for operations.
We must commend the Everflo team on their exceptional ability to innovate and think outside the box. Their custom-engineered solution, combined with outstanding build quality, was key to overcoming the spatial limitations and successfully completing this complex project. This collaboration stands as an excellent example of what can be achieved through close teamwork and creative engineering.
